SolidSellOut?

I went by the shop (Jet's shop) this morning looking for Jet to pick his brain a minute and was told he 'was out gettin' a turbo for a Cummins?'

Proceeded to bs a little with the guy to find out Jet has a 12v and a CR 24v, both on stands in midst of a build. When did he give up on the blue oval? What are these motors going in? Anyone know where he's been, haven't seen any posts lately, either.

Did SolidGround make a solid switch?

Yep he said he has his engine for sale. Guess he wants to start making real power now. The more and more i think about it, i want to start building up a CR 24v and put it in when the times right. He's a smart man.

Any idea which motor he's using, the 12v or the 24v?

What's his current motor worth?

Wow that was quick. I believe he mentioned the 12v. It's about 400x easier to install it because you dont have to deal with electronics, but the CR is the way to go, much smoother, quieter, more power and better efficiency. If i went over, that's what i'd do. Plus with a 12v at 800hp, youre ALWAYS going to have a 800hp 12v, no such thing as changing chip settings.

Good point. I was talking to a few "Destroked" dealers in my area today and they mentioned that as one of the issues w/ a 12V. I had never thought about it. I'm ready to build mine up and have been looking into the switch idea. Bottom line seems to be, that it will run $6-8K more to implant a Cummins 5.9 CR than it is to build the 7.3 to 500HP. That's considering spending around 10Kish for 500HP on the 7.3 and and paying the labor to do the Cummins swap. I'm planning on sticking with the 7.3 for now....but a super duty Cummins is the cream-of-the-crop!

See i would be shooting for 700hp, and there's only one 7.3 out there thats proven at that level. Plus, its not streetable like a 500hp truck would, and i know there are several 700hp commonrails out there running around. Even if it takes 20k to do it, in the end i wont have to worry about any engine blowing up.

And they both have nice regulated systems. Kris has a DI and Jeremy made his.

My bet is Kris will do it first. Chances are, both of us will end up doing it.

Jason, I'd love to, but funds are too tight right now to attempt it...unless you want to float the cash for a month or two. My original plan was to throw a rod through my block, then sell the hi-perf parts off the engine (Dual HPOP, Injectors, Studs, etc...) to fund the initial purchase of the 5.9. However, after thinking about it more, it's probably a smarter move dollar wise to try and keep my engine intact and sell it as a long block.

I'll admit that I have been driving quite a bit easier than normal lately though. Rising costs of fuel play a part in it, but after blowing a small hole in one of my HPOP lines a couple weeks ago, I'm taking it easy. BTS did overnight me a new set of lines, so the truck was really only down for about 14 hours, but holy smokes (literally) did that make a mess.

I had no idea it happened until the truck simply shut off, I got out, and saw oil pouring from under the truck. Initially I thought rod, but didn't see a hole in the block, oil pan looked good, and no strange noises, so I cranked it and it turned over fine. My immediate thought after that was turbo pedestal o-rings, so I replaced them, fired up the truck, then found the leaking line. It was at one of the fitting connections. I was not happy at that point, having just unnecessarily replaced the pedestal o-rings. Oh, and in case you were wondering, the truck will lose 2.5 gallons of oil before the injectors quit working.

Of course, then there's the fun of having a quicker than average Powerstroke. As I was pulling up to a stoplight I saw a truck with stacks sitting in the other lane. Stacks aren't common around here, so I figured it was a modified truck. Got next to him, 24V Dodge, with a programmer on his A-pillar. He eyed my truck and I knew it was on. Turned the chip to 100 HP setting and waited. No 4x4 boosted launch, just an easy lay into the throttle in 2WD. Light turned green, I eased into it, saw the nose of his truck come up hard, so I matted the throttle. The tires hooked (for the most part anyway) and it was pretty even through 1st gear, but as soon as I shifted to 2nd and the TC locked...I walked away from hard. Probably had 2-3 trucks on him by the time I hit 60 MPH. I will admit, that was fun. He wouldn't look at me after that, when he pulled up next to me.

Sorry for the length and randomness guys. The GF that's been living with me for the last 4+ years moved out this past weekend, and I've not had someone to talk to like usual, not to mention the emotional mind warp that I've been going through trying to figure out what's happening between us.

It really sounds like you need to come stay with me, Chris, and Mike at Smokin. Yeah, Yeah, yeah, quit trying to think up excuses and get your butt in the truck come on down.
The manager of the campground informed me this morning that she had us a site right on top of the action.
