Are you sure it is the engine and not the power steering? This is a common part to whine. Also, the water pump can do that.

I put a different power steering pump in it a while back and it didn't help.

Mine whines so much it ruins the exhaust sound! I guess the 302 is just a whiny engine....

Would you like some cheese with your whine?

That wasn't funny.

My 302 was whining pretty damn badly, but the power steering pump was low on fluid, and it still whined afterwards, but I sprayed some of the good old white lithium grease on all the pullies, it shut it right up. DO NOT GET IT ON THE BELTS. That stuff sticks so well, you will have slick spots on your belts forever.

My truck whines both from power steering bein low, which u can tell that by turning the wheel, cause it gets louder. Second whine i get is from trans fluid being low or when its very cold out.

I have narrowed mine down to the air pump.
I have been reading the other post on air pump removal.

I was going to say it must be a pully whining. My 302 doesnt whine at all, with the exception of the steering pump a little.

most ford V8's i've seen have a little bit of whine to them. all my dads crown vic's did it. i think its the torque converter? ford also came out with a TSB for the power steering pumps on these trucks. somethin about air getting in the lines.

I get a whine from my box when I get the steering whine.

That's just from MY box being a complete piece of

I've got a Dodge 4x4 box, that's the first problem.

:P

It's actually a Bendix (I think) unit. Whatever, it's brand new and it whines. It's the design.

There are also 2 fixes for this problem that haven't been mentioned

1. Open Headers

2. Louder Stereo
