Why can't she run?

my 351m is being so stubborn i think i might shoot it. about 2 months ago i bought a new cap, rotor, plugs, wires and she ran the best i have ever seen her run. then 2weeks later it went all downhill. now she runs like a go cart. ok a go cart might be faster but i bought a fuel regulator thinking that my electric fuel pump was pumping fuel too hard and causing my carb to flood. well after i put it on i am having second thoughts. i took out the plugs and cleaned them up since my truck is running rich but i can't adjust the carb right when the truck isn't firing right. well it ran a little smoother but you could tell it still wasn't right. everyone says Vaccumm leak, if it is where is it? i have replaced every single hose on that truck with no luck on running better. might be the 1850 holley carb (I've heard they are worth close to nothing) but if that is the problem why doesn't some one just say "Kid go buy a new carb and see what happens" but no one has. i was thinking of buyin a high output coil and maybe a new ignition module but no one has told me to yet so i keep fiddling around with these ancient parts on my truck. any suggestion would help me and maybe keep me from going out there and shooting a couple rounds at it

Take the sight plugs (front and rear) out of the side of the fuel bowels and see if the fuel level is too high. If it is, try to adjust it down. If you can't and it keeps flooding, you might have a piece of dirt in the float needles. Take them out of the top and clean them out. If the fuel levels are ok, the power valve may have a hole in it. Get a carb kit and rebuild it. Holleys are simple and I know you can do it.

Back fires can definitely ruin the power valve and cause you run rich.
