This message is a little different than most about regen. I of course have an 08 with the dpf. The truck is a job 1,so far so good. I drive in town mostly right now and have experienced regen a few times. I decided to try this method and it seems to work so far. As I understand it the regen is to "unclog" the dpf. When the regen starts I will drop the truck in first gear and run it up to 3000 rpm's between lights. Usually the regen is over by the time I get home. Any thoughts's or comments? BTW I have the auto trans and always waite for the engine to warm up before I do this..
Mine is a Job 1 as well I purchased new 2 months ago and I have only experienced 2 regens so far that I know of (I have 1400 miles). The 1st was when I was on the highway and lasted about 5 minutes. The other one was rather weird as my idle RPM's while in drive moved up slightly to above 750 when they normally are a tick below 750 once warmed up. I also noticed a nasty burning smell when I would get out of my truck once it was cut off. This went on for several days and I noticed the milage meter was dropping to about 7-8mpg in the city from 10-12. I finally left it in park for about a minute one day when I was finished driving and that is when it jumped to over 1000 RPM's and went into regen. It just seemed like it wouldn't regen while in drive for some reason which by what I have been reading and by my first experience, it should.
It can be very hard to notice a regen unless you have a pre turbo EGT installed. The tip off is a rise in EGT the temp usually starts off with a 300/400 degree rise and the temps can well rise to 1000/1100 degrees. If you are paying attention you can detect a slight loss of power. The regen's that occur below 50 MPH are the most noticable. Mine have lasted 5 to 10 mins. They will last as long as there is the soot takes to burn it off.Don't think it is a good idea to rev up the motor as your EGT may already be very high due to regen and reving the motor will only drive it to harmful levels.
I've noticed just about all my regens, my tattel-teller is by opening the rear window and listening for the "jet engine" sound coming from my exhaust, normally when the turbo is spolling up and under pressure. I've done many different things to the truck during regen; letting it idle and eat up fuel to remove the soot, shuting off the truck to kill the regen and when restarted head up the highway for a while. All of which I watch unused diesel get waisted on a process that does not help the truck get moving!
If you couldn't tell I'm ready for regen delete! Oh yeah I have 17,895 miles on mine

It does regen in drive. But if your foot is on the brake or the truck is traveling below a certain speed the RPMs will not increase. It's basically a safety feature that keeps you from running into the car in front of you.
To me it makes sense that a lot of idling will increase the number and length of a regen as soot will build up quicker in low rpm operation. I have 3200 miles on my job 2 F-350 and 75 hours on the meter. My quick math says I average 40 plus m. p. h. I notice from guys complaining the most that highest number of regens are with averages as low as 20 m.p.h. from their own posts. Just as info. I still have yet to identify a regen, but have to admit a hearing loss, but never have seen any smoke.
