I have a 96 F250 psd 2WD and it acts like the converter is locked up completely. If I drop it in gear it will stall the engine unless the wheels slip. If I can get it rolling with out stalling it shifts just fine, both up and down, and if attempting to stop it will stall.
Acts to me like something in the coverter came loose and locked it up. Do you all think a new converter is the answer or is there more to it? E4OD right?
Ok I unplugged the connector, started it up, dropped it into drive and it acted weird but wasn't locked. I then put it in reverse and it still wasn't locked. I went back to drive and it made a tinny mechanical crunch and locked enough to stall the engine. After restarting, it was back to being completely locked again, both forward and reverse.
Acts like what is wrong in the converter just happened to come loose and then it jambed up again. I'm still thinking something came loose inside the converter and has it jambed/locked up. Unless someone thinks otherwise. Let me know if you do.
If its good in park and reverse then the good news is that you TC isn't mechanically trashed, but you still have an electrical malfunction or hydrualic malfunction/internal leakage.
