I have an alarming problem. It began about 7 years ago right after I bought my used 1998 F150. The factory installed anti-theft alarm would go off for no apparent reason. Day, night or whenever. After replacing the battery the problem disappeared. A year or so later it started again and progressivly became more frequent. I tried disconnecting the battery for a few hours thinking that might somehow reset it but it didn't fix my problem. After a few weeks I decided to replace the battery even though there was no indication that the battery was weak or had problems. The problem stopped after installing the new battery. After this I concluded that the problem must be that as the battery begins to age and gets slightly weaker it sets off the alarm( even though the battery is relativly OK) and that I would have to replace it regularly to avoid this problem.
Recently the alarm started going off again. I went ahead and installed a new battery thinking that that would be my remedy. However, it did not fix the problem and my alarm is going off a couple times a day. Can anyone tell me what might be causing this and how to fix it? I will gladly disconnect the alarm system completly if that is an option. I need help soon before neighbors join together and stone me to death!
I have the same issue and it is not the battery. It is the alarm and so far the only way I have read about to address this issue is to ground out the alarm. Problem is that is will not work again. I will keep searching for a better anwser.
the amont that you spent in batteries you could have bought a new alarm.
Agreed, but Hindsight is 20/20. He could have in no way known that it was not the battery. don't feel stupid about it just bypass it and buy a new one if you need it.
Personally I have no need for one where I live but you might.
Hmm...I had my truck broken into once due to the factory alarm not working though its not FORDs fault cuz a factory alarm doesnt sence glass breaking and when the door is opened from the inside, the alarm is deactivated....SO I bought an aftermarket alarm because I thought the factory one went dead and that I needed something better. Well my factory alarm still works but goes off when unplugging and plugging the battery back in which is normal. I think that maybe the power(wire) going to the factory alarm is bad or the ground is bad. But I dont know how to explain how it goes bad when the truck is not moving or on and goes off and can be turned off again and does not turn off by itself due to the fault....
