Okay a stupied question from someone who doesn't really deal with diesels,
Why is using a heavy 15W40 so important? Why can't you use a lighter weight oil? I was thinking beause of the HP and torque and turbo, but there are gassers out there that compare in that catagory and use lighter weight oil...so I am just wondering. I know the oil is related to the FI and thought that may be it.
What is the difference between a oil meant for diesel and one meant for gas?
Our diesels come from the factory with 10w-30. I, along with many others use 5w-40 oil which is thinner when cold. I think the main difference between C rated and S rated oil is the additive pack. Diesels produce more soot which must be held in suspension in the oil.
