Its the trim that rides right above the bed rail, and below the back window. To answer the OPs question, yes that trim was available from the factory, and is made in reproduction.
He just wants to paint the roof a different color, not the upper body.
What he wants, is the moulding(s) at the junction where the roof meets the body aka back belt mouldings.
These begin just behind the door and wrap around the rear of the cab.
We used to call them hockey sticks.
1973/79 Regular & Crew Cab (Super Cab is different)
D3TZ-10423A20-A .. Right Side-Back of Cab Moulding.
D3TZ-10423A21-A .. Left Side-Back of Cab Moulding except with a in-cab fuel tank.
D3TZ-10423A21-B .. Same as above but with an in-cab fuel tank. 1 of 2 pieces.
The above is the long wrap around moulding. With an in-cab tank, there's a short moulding used on the side.
D3TZ-25423A21-A .. Left Side (short piece of moulding) use with in-cab fuel tank.
Instead of using these mouldings, one could add a self adhesive vinyl moulding sold in the aftermarket sector-usually as add on body side mouldings.
They were also used when vinyl roofs were installed. There are many different colors and widths...check with a body shop...they usually know ppl that sell them.
