Ok so I got the the air handler for the 92 dash today from the local pick and pull and while I was pulling it out I had one last great idea! Swap the whole wiring harness and ecm. Then I could use the late model gauge cluster. How hard do you think this would be? What is different from and 89 4.9 to a 94 4.9? Just another one of my crazy ideas. Tell me what you think.
Sort of. But no sense in swapping the ECM unless you have a reason to.
Also, the wiring harness and ECM changed dramatically in 1996 for the F-150 because it went to OBD-II. It also changed in 94 or 95 to accommodate mass air. Be careful.
An automatic ECM will work fine in a vehicle with a manual, it will just set a couple of codes because the tranny isn't there. It won't set the light off.
I think I have decided against this idea for now. I just got orders to Hawaii and I will be there for about 2-3 years! So I need to get this thing back on the road fast!! I may be taking it and I may not!
