Has anyone tried the crane pedestal mount conversion kits? They would sure save me alot of work. And Who doesn't like to save work?
Also, are the stock valve covers tall enough to accept say Crane Vacume cast roller rockers? I have the big factory A/C box on my truck, and I don't think bigger valve covers will fit..
I just finished with the complete rebuild of a 400 --with the #2 cam in the Crane energizer series of hyd. cams----it has just a mild lope at idle which is what i was looking for---i also used the crane valve(double) valve springs , Fulcrum kit , stainless valves(same size) and hardened seats , double timing chain , hi-vol. oil pump , alum. water pump , crane hardened pushrods(probably not necessary) but good ins. in my opinion , ohio pistons , and the holley truck avenger carb-----runs extremely well --so far---fd :-X11
Thanks for the responce. It's good to see another hot 400 on the road..
Those roller fulcrums look kinda cool. I was thinking about them, but my stock rockers are well used, and I din't want to risk it.. So I'll think I'll go with the vacume cast ones.. They look sweet.
Also,if you have an auto did you put in a stall converter? I was thinking about going to 1900 - 2100 stall. Whadda ya think?
Is there anyone running roller rockers with the pedestal conversion and roller rockers? I'd like to know if they fit with the stick valve covers.
I am using 4 speed -so no opinion on stall conv's---If you go the roller cam setup---there is no halfway--you will need roller cam , rocker arms , lifters , guideplates , and hardened pushrods---plus you will be have to ADJUST your rocker arms every so often---roller cams offer a definite benefit of an increase in HP---BUT--you will spend from 1200 to 2000 on a quality roller cam setup---whereas---the hydraulic cam setup-can be had for 600 or less and 400 HP is not a problem with modest head work----If you have Lotsa bucks--go for it---I prefer good performance and NOT having to jack with the engine--and you don't have to worry about buying octane enhancer ,etc , etc , ---The fulcrum setup will work with your stock valve covers , as will any roller cam setup I believe , fd :-X11
