I just tore into my brake parts that I recently ordered.
New wheel cylinders for one.
This is a Mustang rear to start with in my F1 and I need the pieces that go into the wheel cylinders that push the brakes out. (fork shaped slugs)
Where to I buy these? I figured my new cylinders would have them but nope.
Since this is a total rebuild I dont have anything to start with but the backing plates.
I ordered new brake hardware kits with springs and pins and a few other things but none of these.
Go to you local salvage yard and get them off the same year Mustang and clean them up they should be fine. Not much can go wrong with them. Local auto parts store might have them if you can find someone there that actually knows something about cars instead of just looking at the computer.
Depending on the year of the Mustang, as a last resort, your local Ford dealer should have them or could order them. I would think that they are pretty standard but without the old ones to compare, you would be guessing unless you get them from the same year Mustang. The Ford dealer should be able to tell you what model and years would work.
It seems every time I go the a Ford parts counter they always recommend an aftermarket source. I tried to pick up a speedometer gear for a c4 tranny last week and the guy was amazed that I would even ask. Am I expecting too much?
Woodsman I hear ya.
Thats why I order alot of parts online. I just didnt give this a thought and now IM stuck.
I have two rear ends I have to go look through that are 70 miles from me.
I have went through the Mustang parts supply places and they dont even have them.
I know if I went to a Ford dealer they would just give me the typical "we dont have anything back beyond 20 years" and not even look it up.
The part has to be a generic item used for trucks and cars of the seventies. I just need to get up and find it.
What year mustang? I have drum brakes leftover from 65 that I put disc's on. If they are the right year and I can find them I can send the parts to you
