Those of you who are interested in replacing their keyed door handles with the non-keyed variety and jimi-jammers for safety should be aware of something.
Currently ford offers the handles already painted, but those are being phased out. In fact, the driver's side handle has already been discontinued. Now it only comes in paint-to-match. The passenger side still comes painted, but not for much longer.
My parts guy was able to find the painted handle in dealer stock in Ohio, so I got lucky, but thought I would let you guys know. Getting the handles painted adds to the cost of the mod.
Even if they do, Mine were painted when it was only part of the limited excursion. It's not that expensive to have them done. It's a very good looking way of handling them, I like it much better than chrome or black plastic.
The website I ordered my handles from is http://www.carpartswholesale.com/They were $18.00 each. I had to replace the two front handles and key cylinders due to a break in. When I did replace them I used a rear door handle, no key hole, on the passenger side. The only part I had to buy from Ford was the Key Cylinder. It was about $75.00 but they made it fit my current keys. I also went ahead and put in the Jammers on all doors.
I did all the work myself. it was very easy to do. here is a link to take the doors panels off:
Thanks for the link.. are the door handles you got for $18 the smooth/painted ones? I would like to get rid of the black plastic/textured ones I have. I have a supercab and have considered using 2 rear door handles but if your battery goes dead your in bad shape.
