I am getting a 400 from a friend to put in my ranchero, this is my first 400, although i have had a 351C which is close to it, but mainly wondering some basic stuff about 400's like what are the valve specs on a late 70's 400? will my 351C heads bolt on? if so what intake will work? any help is appreciated

wieand sells intake spaces so you can instal 351c intakes on the 351m/400 engines. they are found on the wieand site, as well as paw catalog and summits site.
Yes all those places and Price Motorsports Eng. has then too 812-546-4220..What they let you do is put a better selection of intakes on your 400.Most plates come in the 2V opening but can be made to fit the 4V heads with a little milling or a lot of grinding with a hand grinder.
I am putting those spacers on my 400 to run a cleveland intake. Should i port them? I have heard people tell me i should and people tell me i shouldnt cause it would hurt low end torque. I will be running 351C 4v heads.

You know - in your original post, you never said whether your 351 heads were 2V or 4V. Everyone assumed 4V since that would only make sense performance-wise. On the off-chance that the heads that you want to transplant are 2V for whatever reason - yes they will bolt up, and no you don't need any spacers. Not sure why one would put 351C 2V heads on a 400 (since they are pretty much identical) unless they were in better condition, had been massaged, or were Aussie heads - but thought I would mention it...
the heads i have are 2 barrel, i dont know much about 400s i didnt know about any head similarity, but if they are pretty much identical, then i'll just stick with the heads that are on it, thanx for the info guys, youve been a big help.
