ok, i am new to truck performance and such, i followed cars for a while, until i couldn't get one and got a truck, a 91 ranger. I want to drop a new engine in it, but don't know what type to put in. Right now it has a v6, but i owuld like a v8. Now i have heard a lot about the 351m, but have no clue what is so great about it. What type engine do you suggest i put in it? i was thinking a chevy engine (i know i know ford site...) but i was looking at that because i heard it was easier to get parts for and it's cheaper. What do you suggest? I am looking for a good sleeper engine, that can get good gas mileage for daily driving but can kick @ss at the track. Any help would be great!
Advance Adapters ([link:www.advanceadapters.com/index.html|AA Website Link]) has conversion kits for putting Ford V8s in Ranger/Bronco IIs. The axles and transfer case should be able to take the strain if you don't go too crazy with the hp and the loud pedal. The only question would be the transmission. The automatic that Ford put in those series vehicles was called the A4LD and is not particularly known for it's strength, neither is the Japanese 5 speed manual that was standard. All the same a nicely warmed up 302 would probably be your best bet for fit and aftermarket parts availability.
