i have a 2000 ford f-350 and today i was just driving down the road and went into nuetral but the truck didn't....the shifter and all did i could go back and forth like it was in neutral but the truck still pulled like it was still in 4th gear. it still is doing this and i don't kno what to do with it plan on taring into to it tonite or tom. and i was wondering if ANYBODY new what was wrong or could be wrong. the only thing i can think of it the fork broke or a synchro went out but i have kno idea when it comes to trans. just pretty much how to put a clutch and all the intertwines to let them hold power. but mine is also still all the stock components and i have 2 chips stacked putting 345hp and 715lbs to the ground and was wondering if that had much to do with it but i don't think so just the fact that i don't get on it to often. but if anybody has a clue or just a guess on what is wrong THANKS.
I would pull the shifter out of it to see if you broke the ball end. Just four phillips screws for the boot. Then 4 hex screws to remove the shifter from the trans. Dont drop the plastic shifter guide bushings into the trans.
Heres the shifter setup
If you cant shift into any gear, see if you can move the the thing that the shifter ball goes into(bottem left corner). The only thing I can think of is that the dowel pin that holds this thing snaped.
guy, just pull the slave cylinder out and look int the hole to see if you broke the fork.
Wrong fork Tim. He's talking about the ones that slide the gears, not the one at the throw out bearing.
If you didn't get a lot of noise or grinding then I'd lean towards a sheared dowel pin also. That sounds like the most logical explanation for what you're describing since the shift lever still moves properly.

Sorry! I thought you were refering to the problematic clutch fork.

Thanks 84-250 for the schematics. That will help alot. I hope you guys are rights about the dowel pin. I will let you know what we find.
We pulled the tranny yesterday and it doesn't seem to be a fork. Looks maybe like the synchros could be the problem. It is further down than the back housing. I am going to see if I can find a good manual tranny mechanic today to take a look.
btw ts_stroker is my son, so I get the privilege of helping.
Well it looks like the tranny has had it. Ran low on oil and scawlded the lower cluster and the input shaft is bad. Looks like it is cheaper to buy a rebuild. Does anyone know if a ZF from a 2004 6.0 will work in a 2000 7.3?

I just looked it up at the link below and the 7.3 vs the 6.0 tranny is a different listing for each.
Thanks Kwik, I have come to that conclusion also, It seems the bolt pattern is different. The search continues...
See post number 7 in this thread. When my tranny went out, I did a lot of searching and found the best deal was with Fleet Pride.
Manual trannies are rather expensive compared to the automatics.
