Hi, my 1997 E150 with the 4.6L hesitates only under full power/highway speeds. (146K miles) In most cases the service engine light blinks. I have taken it to the dealer twice without any luck. The first time they adjusted the cylinder 2 spark plug wire since the code said it was a cylinder 2 miss. The second time they replaced the intake manifold gasket.
I have also recently replaced the 2 coils, spark plugs, wires and fuel filter.
Hello. I am having similar problems when going up any steep incline. I read some of the comments from other forum members who experienced similar problems. One conclusion was their catalytic converter was the problem. Myself, my exhaust pipe immediately behind the catalytic converter rusted into and I have not experienced the problem again. Maybe my muffler was damaged. I am not sure. But I do know a damaged catalytic converter will rob your vehicle of power. Just a thought!
The problem may be fixed. I exchanged the camshaft position sensor, cleaned the Mass Air Flow Sensor and put new vacuum hoses without any luck. So then I went back to the basics and pulled the spark plugs. (not so easy) Cylinder #2 plug was cracked.
I just assumed the dealer would of checked that since the service code was miss on Cylinder 2. Next time I will not make that assumption.
Thanks for the exhaust idea, I am still on the original so that problem is going to happen.
