'97 E150 van 110K 4.6 E4OD

This van hads the overdrive button on the end of the shifter. My son is on a trip and told me that the OD light doesn't come on and it doesn't down shift when he pushes the button. It's always worked before. It seems to shift in & out of OD OK when you step on the gas, it's just the manual override button isn't working. Is this a common problem? and easy solution I can give him over the phone. Just trying to save the brakes on some of the downhills.

Check the OD fuse (#20) in fuse panel for the dash. Over time the wire running up the tilt stearing column will break over time from use of the tilt mechinism. this may need repair.
