98 Expy 4x4 not engaging.

98 Expy 4x4 not engaging.
Looking for some help please. My 98 5.4 4x4 is not working. The shafts are turning, just not spinning the tires. I located the vaccum lines, and they appear to be good. Do the 'switches' up by the battery go bad.
Oh, and the lights work, and when I go into 4 low, the loud 'thud' occurs.
Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Tap on the shift motor, it could be stuck. If that doesn't help, buy a rebuilt one for around $70 and install. I did mine a couple weeks ago and it wasn't too bad of a job (kinda tedious pulling and reinstalling all the wires in the harness).

have a 98 and samething. the motor was stuck, dropped it and sprayed kroil around it and works great. you need to flip the switch through the motions, even if your not needing four wheel drive, it will keep the motor from doing this.

So I got up under it, and sprayed the snot out of the mechanism with PB Blaster on Thursday, and started flipping it in and out, and by Friday, it was working. What a terrible location to put that thing. It gets pretty dirty under there. But it was working in time for the 15 inches of snow we got dumped on with.
