Most of the frames I have seen were painted or powder coated semi gloss black, which is what mine is. Body color is very cool, but if you haven't picked a color (like me), then a contrasting/complimentary color is nice.
One of the coolest frame colors I have see was a hammertone pewter. Very nice. And it would go with any color body.

I am painting Willard bright red with a hammertone chassis. The only final color so far is red wheels and the complete Jag front suspension in the hammertone.
My frame will be yellow, the same as the body. I like the yellow and black combo, so the jag subframe is black, but the control arms are yellow, for example. Anything that is black will have yellow pinstripes, and anything yellow will have red stripes.
One of the members of our club won 1st place in the 53-56 semi-custom class at the GNRS in both 2007 and 2008 with a black 56 F100 with a metallic red chassis. I would have never thought to use that color combination but that sparkling red undercarraige sure sets off that mirror black finish.
I like the Krylon Rust Tough rattle-can paint product line. They have a HAMM-R paint that comes in silver that is a hammertone finish. I have used it on brackets and other pieces that mount to my polished aluminum IFS/IRS, it adds a nice touch.
CIAF has a hammertone grey frame in his gallery. "hammerite epoxy paint" is one brand... Which is the one I think he used, and is the one I intend to use, too. My other (stock) truck will be chassis black.
