just curious how this system sounds, starting to take a serious look at getting a truck and was wondering if its worth the extra money. i dont want to mess with stereos anymore, been there done that. just want some feedback on how it sounds. i heard a new 08 silverado with the bose and it was amazing,
Everyone listens for different things when it comes to audio. Some like to hear the top hats singing clearly above everything else. Others like that ground-pounding bass. To compound that there are as many different tastes in music as there are people.
Your absolute best bet is to round up some of your favorite songs--on your MP3 player, burn them to a "test drive" CD, or just grab the actual CDs--take them down to a dealership, and actually test drive a truck...by which I mean test drive the audiophile system.
Speaking from my experience, I was kind of in your position previously. I have messed with upgrading audio in previous vehicles, and did not want to do that with my current truck. The system could definitely benefit from an actual mixer rather than the standard bass & treble adjustments, but overall, it is a pretty solid system...especially considering it is stock.
Between the 6 month Sirius satellite radio subscription & my iPod, I have pushed it through the paces of everything running from comedy programming, classic rock (Styx, Supertramp, CCR, etc.), and on to my mainstay of hard rock (Metallica, Sevendust, Korn, etc.). It did pretty respectably in all of these...once you fiddle with it a bit.
My personal observations...your mileage my vary: If the treble & bass adjustments are left "zeroed" out, the 8" sub seems to come on a bit too strong in many types of music & talk shows. Similarly, the highs tend to get overpowered by the rest of the audio. Once you start adjusting the treble & bass adjustments, you can get it back to a much more balanced sound. The one noteworthy thing is that I have found that there has not been a time when I needed to push either of the adjustments to the far end of their scale to get as much, or as little, out of them as possible. And that is actually saying something for the power & range of the system.
Again, my best advise is for you to go test drive the stereo...which most people do not do. If you are looking for a particular cab (Super Cab, Super Crew) or seating arrangement (40/20/40 vs. captains w/the center, flow-through console), I would try to find something that closely matches your preferences, as it all plays a part in the overall effectiveness of the sound system.
I've only had my truck for 2 weeks, but I'm very happy with the sound of the audiophile system. I would say it is one of the best factory systems I've ever heard. Way better than the "Premium" 7 speaker system in my Jeep Rubicon, no comparison. Also better than the stock Infinity system in my son's Dodge, but not by as large a margin.
I have it in my FX4, and I love it. If you replace the head unit with a good aftermarket one you can tune the sound parameters a lot more than with the stock radio. I get compliments all the time on how good mine sounds.
get the FX4 Luxury package. not only will it ride better, but it has the same options as the Lariat, but a lower price tag. I think you can't get the Trip Computer with the FX4...but the other options are available
The FX4 Luxury Package does add a couple niceties (like the EATC & additional steering wheel controls) which closes the gap between the FX4 and Lariat trim levels. However, there is nothing in that package that would change the ride quality.
