Interesting. You would think all it would take is a visit to the Social Security office. Typical government red tape. I would sue somebody if I was on the brink of losing my home because someone miss typed a SSN.

Did you know that government workers are basically exempt from being sued for 'mistakes'?

Of course they are. Nobody wants to be held responsible for anything anymore.

Nope, I'm not dead, but according to Social Security, I'm 10 days younger than I really am. Which means that I can never file my taxes electronically.

That is interesting, why would being 10 days younger prevent you from filing electronically?

Because I'm asked for my birthday by the IRS when I try to file electronically. If I give them the real one, they tell me it doesn't match SS and when I give them the day SS thinks it is, they tell me it doesn't match the IRS records.

I've never had a problem filing by mail, but the electronic filing causes an issue every year. I finally gave up and didn't even bother trying to file electronically this year.

With proper documentation and the willingness to wait forever at the Social Security Office, you can get thet corrected.

Yeah, I have a dislike of wasting my time sitting in line, so I haven't bothered. The only time it's ever presented a problem is when I try to file taxes electronically, so I don't feel the need to deal with it.

Furthermore, who knows what the proper documentation is? If a person who's not dead can't get it fixed, even though they show up at the SS office, what hoops do you suppose I'll have to go through to prove that I was born on a different day then they say?

It's just not worth the trouble...

By that time, ShamelessMT may be dead, but the SSO records will have him as being alive, and the IRS will still require him to file tax returns.

Bureaucracy at its finest.

I'd start with a notorized copy of my birth certificate.

Now I knew Ben would chime in...at his age...well ya know

Okay, thinking about it, IF I was declared dead, would that mean I wouldn't have to pay taxes?

Without tryomg to figure it out, I wonder if I could just claim 99 dependants, get the majority of my pay check, and slide on 4/15?

Just a thought...sure there are other issues, etc...but what the heck for a working Joe?

Why your birth certificate, 3Mike6?

Why not ShamelessMT's birth certificate? (I know what you meant)

That would be a good start, because you (ShamelessMT) may need the proper
DOB registered when you try to retire, or need any assistance concerning these agencies.

Just my dos centavos.

It would be very cool if the IRS thought I was dead and my employer thought I was alive. I could actually take home what they say they pay me and I could deal with my own "social security".
