What I can find on that part number in the parts catalog:

E5TZ-9940700-B Tailgate Assy. Fits 83/86 F100/350 but there's a 99 in parenthesis following it, I have no idea what that last part means but it's listed after several part numbers, not just the tailgate

I personally wouldn't expect it to come with the handle, cables & latching stuff but I really don't know, others may know more (it *is* listed as an assembly, but I don't trust it....)

Thanks a lot. I don't need the internals.
If this guy wants payment for a NOS tailgate he better be willing to provide some customer service with pictures. Waiting till Monday it is.

Quite honestly, there aren't many in the parts manual to choose from:

U150 is Bronco, R is Ranger (so you can exclude those from the list).

80/87 suffixed with 83. Any ideas to what gives to that combination?

(83) = Flareside
(99) = Styleside

It's also the two front numbers after the prefix EX: E0TZ-9940700-A

Thanks for the help gentlemen. Does this look NOS? What is with the 'Superior' label? Convenient how the English is ripped off after being in a box for years...

My NOS front fender came in a box with the FORD logo in blue on it. I can't remember it having a sticker on the metal itself.

Can anyone translate that? It says something about l'originale in the first sentence in red.

I can't read any of the red, only the white on blue background.

It's French:

Sheet Metal Handle With Care

Something like: Roughening Of Coated And Primed Only

Google Translate

About it looking NOS, well, it *does* have F O R D embossed on it, only licensed suppliers can legally do that.

I'd be looking for a Ford oval logo and/or Engineering number stamped in it someplace.

Also, compare the weight to your old one....

Thats a Ford gate, the red text says "Ford sheetmetal is superior, beware counterfeiters" more or less.

I never purchased it yet, just got these pics sent to me, otherwise I thought about the weight.

I hope it's legit - I really want it.

Be aware the actual part number for the tailgate for 1983-1985 styleside trucks is E5TZ-9940700-B. The E0TZ-9940700-A gate is the wrong one for a 1985.

The 1983-1986 uses support cables to hold the tailgate in an upright position when open.

The 1980-1982 uses metal support arms to hold the tailgate in an upright position.

The hardware between the two gates where it comes to the supports is different. The E0TZ-9940700-A gate for 1980-1982 will have extra holes and slits for the extra hardware. E5TZ-9940700-B gate for 1983-1986, omits these holes.

I know you would have to modify a E5TZ gate, drill, cut and weld to get it to fit on a 1980-1982 using 1980-1982 supports.

Just something to concider.

I knew of the difference from your previous posts. For some reason I thought E5TZ replaced E0TZ making that E0TZ I found correct for my 85. E5TZ replaces E3TZ.

Thanks for catching that. I know NOS is limited, but I don't feel like cutting apart a NOS gate that a fellow 80-82'er could use.
