I recently bought an '02 Navi. The air suspension pump was making quite a racket when ever it was pumping. I removed the pump assembly and found that all three of the rubber insulators that are to keep the pump vibrations from transmitting through to the body of the vehicle were broken.
Talked to the Lincoln Mercury dealer today about getting three new rubber insulators for the pump assembly. All he could find is that Ford has some kind of 'kit' that is used to modify how the pump is mounted to the mounting bracket for $90!
Has any one run got a source for just the rubber insulators, or has any one figured out a substitute for these insulators?
Thanks in advance for any ideas you may have tried.
Isolators are just rubber washers that the mounting bolts go through right? (never seen an assembly so I'm "assuming" here). If so, then i imagine you could find something like you need at home depot or Lowe's. It's like when my HP laptop lost it's rubber feet. They want 85$ for a pack of five rubber feet. For 5$ for vinyl feet and some krazy glue, and 20 min. of time, i made my own
I WENT ONLINE AND FOUND THE RUBBER BUSHINS FOR THE COMPRESSOR MUONT it works fine and made it alot more quiet but it is just a temporry fix in a couple of years it will wear the bushings out again, thats why they made the new kit. there is a dealer on this sight that can get it cheaper then that i belive, do a serch and you will fing a few post about it
i've replaced those mounts as well. my dealer told me i needed a new pump assembly. i ended up finding a pump on ebay for $25 and took them off there. from what i remember i couldn't find any makeshift replacement that i liked. the factory isolaters are very floaty, for lack of a better word.

Right. And there appears to be a metal 'tube' molded through the center of the rubber that the mounting bolt goes through.

Good idea, Hey. Thanks.

Hmmm, I hadn't had any luck, but I guess I need to search a little more. Glad to know they are out there. BTW, you don't have a name or web address, do you?

Good point. Thanks for pointing that out. May be worth biting the bullet and getting the kit.

I had done a few searches, but probably dsidn't use the correct terminology. I try some more. Thanks.

Exactly! Because they are so soft/floaty, they look like they eventually tore of the center metal 'tube' that goes through the center of the isolator. I'll keep the eBay idea in mind. Thanks.
My air pump is mounted with three rubber isolators. It looks to me like the bracket is drilled and the pump body has provisions for FOUR rubber isolators.
Should there be four of them or is there only susposed to be three. (Maybe there is less stress on the isolators if there is only three....duno).
Arnott Inc. sells the rubber isolator kit for the air compressor for about $20, better than a tempory fix or buying used mounts. Look them up on thier web site, I bought a compressor from them a few years ago.

Yep, I got the Arnott Inc. isolators. My question is should there be THREE or FOUR isolators when I remount the air pump??
There are only 3 mounting locations on the pump to the bracket.
Not sure what the 4th location on the bracket is for, probably from fords parts bin to hold down something on another vehicle?

Interesting - my pump has 4 mounting locations and my bracket is tapped/threaded for 4 mounting bolts. And Arnott sent me 4 isolators. But my air pump only had 3 isolators on it when I took it off.
I don't know if it originally had 4 and the previous owner lost one, or if Ford decided that using only three kept it quieter or allowed more movement, etc.
So is the concensus that I remount it with only 3 isolators?

Just wanted to post an update to my own question about weather these pumps use 3 or 4 isolators.
When I went to reassemble my air pump I put all four isolators in the pump bracket, but when I went to install the mounting bolts through the isolators and screw them into the mounting bracket I found that the mounting bracket was not tapped/threaded for the fourth bolt. Since Arnott sent me four isolators I tapped the mounting bracket and am going to use all four isolators - maybe four of them will spread the load more and they m-a-y last longer - we'll see.
