I just wanted to post that I took my truck in for window seal warranty work and while it was there, I had them apply the latest flash. I was somewhat worried about mpg after that due to some experiences shared on this forum.
My first tank came back at 18.2 mpg hand calculated (75% highway). The next tank is currently at 20.7 on the lie-o-meter after 40 miles of a town-to-town commute (in the past the electronic has been apprx. 1 mpg high). So far, this equals the best I have ever seen.
Very pleased w/ the dealership and the results so far ..... AND I am glad to know that I have the Inductive Heating and the cycling of the turbo vanes at extended idle. I HIGHLY recommend having these flashes!
Next CCV re-route and then HARPOON. The way diesel goes up so fast, I want to be able to cram a lot in the tank when I find it cheap!!
They replaced the front drivers AND passenger windows AND seals (and my windows were only slightly scratched).
They did not do anything w/ the back (crew cab). The seals on the back windows looked like they may have a gap, but no scratches on the windows.
You will probably need to take a copy of the TSB w/ you to get them to do it. They will probably say there isn't such a TSB. I posted a wrong (old??) number in a previous post. The proper number is:
<TABLE style="WIDTH: 550pt; BORDER-COLLAPSE: collapse" cellSpacing=0 cellPadding=0 width=733 border=0 x:str><COLGROUP><COL style="WIDTH: 550pt; mso-width-source: userset; mso-width-alt: 26806" width=733><TBODY><TR style="HEIGHT: 11.25pt" height=15><TD class=xl24 style="BORDER-RIGHT: #d4d0c8; BORDER-TOP: #d4d0c8; BORDER-LEFT: #d4d0c8; WIDTH: 550pt; BORDER-BOTTOM: #d4d0c8; HEIGHT: 11.25pt; BACKGROUND-COLOR: transparent" width=733 height=15>TSB 06-18-2 (replaces TSB 06-5-8 I belive)</TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE>
Someone previously said they had it done and the windows scratched up again fairly quickly. Oh well - better to get it done and hope rather than be guaranteed a scratched view!
Tell me more about this turbo vane cycling please.
Regarding the turbo vane cycling at idle - I know only what the dealership told me. Since soot build up during extensive idling is possible, the vanes will be periodically moved during extended idle to prevent sticking. I hope someone more informed can chime in ........
BTW - it did cost me $110 for the flash, but I got the window warranty work, the flash upgrade, tires rotated, and a tire leak fixed for $117. I am becoming very pleased w/ the dealership. When I mentioned the possibility of installing guages soon, I mentioned the DashDAQ - the service writer was very interested in it.
Bismic, I'm just curious why they did charge you $110 for the flash, I thought that was part of warranty? Do keep us updated on how the truck is running and the increased fuel mileage benefits as I'm sure many would be interested if that holds true. As for the inductive heating, how much does that help with cold start-ups? Thanks.
I requested the flash - even though there was nothing wrong w/ the truck. The dealership's position is that they would upgrade the software for free if I had a problem. Since I didn't, they charged. I was under the impression that this was standard practice. Has anyone else had a different experience?
Even so, it was worth it to me for the enhancements (especially if the mileage stays up). In all reality, I probably will end up w/ about the same fuel economy since it really is too early to tell AND the electronic mileage indicator on my truck has always been high and somewhat erratic. I'm definitely OK w/ it even if the mileage stays the same!
They did not tell me the flash number. The invoice states:
"Update the computor software. 1.5 Updated Powertrain Control Module, Fuel Injector Control Module, and Transmission Control Module to latest level calibration. Ran self tests. System passes.
Also:
"Perform quality care report card evaluation" - Does anyone know what this is? I did not look at the invoice in detail when I picked up the truck - didn't notice this line item until now.

Your post is the first I have heard of this being included in the strategy. Does anyone else know anything about it?
bismic, what type of climate do you live in? right now our 6.0 is getting about 13. but that includes LOTS of idling in the morning when it in the teens.
im interested in getting the latest flash upgrade and see if the mpgs are as good as yours
bigblock -
I live in Texas. The person analyzing my oil, Terry Dyson, told me I don't need to idle that much in the morning. I believe I still would if the weather was in the teens and twentys. Probably would only idle a few minutes though. I definitely take off a little slower when it is cold with this flash. No issues for me, I think that this is what you should do w/ these trucks anyway. Don't push them until they are warm. They will generate less soot this way.
LaredoF350 - I can not find where I kept the reference to flash that cycles the vanes. I wish someone would join in this thread that knows this for certain and could give us a link. This is why I was hoping someone could re-activate the Tech Folder link on Flashes! I typically save the references for all my posts, just for credibility, but I overlooked this one.
