ok, I'm not an owner of any new body style 7.3's (I've got a 94' stroker though)
but a buddy of mine came over tonight in his company truck, I THINK it's a 2003 F350 and it's just a missin' and a shakin' like a SOB.. told him right off, you got a bad stick, maybe a few.. got my edge out and these are the codes it pulled..
p0733
p0603
p1316
p0783
p0782
p0781
p0732
what are those codes for? my edge tells you a little, but not much.. his company is going to fix it.. prolly send it to Ford, but he's hoping that if he can tell them whats wrong and sound smart about it they will pay for a few upgrades such as a new DP, air intake and a new chip.. thanks again

P1316 Injector Circuit/IDM Codes Detected
We're assuming this is a 7.3 not a 6.0. Is there a chip / tuner in the truck? Has he noticed any transmission troubles? The 603's not anything to worry about. Most of the codes sound like a tranny problem. The 1316 that's making you think he's got a bad stick sounds like the UVC harness. The 9 pin connectors tend to come unplugged under the valve cover, or the wires will chaff and cause the truck to run without up to half the injectors.
yeah, trucks got a super chip in it.. it's a 7.3.. and yeah, tranny is on the way out he says.. and your saying the wiring harness came unpluged UNDER the valve cover? or right at it? sounds like something we might be able to figure out in an afternoon..
i have seen several trucks where the uvc just came off the valve cover gasket, dont know why, just plugged it back in and it "clicked" into place, couldnt wiggle it loose at all. that definatly sounds like you may have that problem. to see which side it is just pick one and disconnect the harness from teh cover while its running. if it stalls then you unplugged the good side
The connector at the valve cover has a plug on both the inside and the outside. The one on the inside is usually the one that comes loose. You can disconnect the outside plug and ohm the wires for resistance to determine which side needs to come off. The valve cover gasket is re-usable.
The 9-pin plug is wired as follows:
G G I I C I I G G
G=Glow Plug +
I = Injector +
C= Injector Common
The injectors fire with a 115VDC signal from the IDM. Do Not pierce the wires to test.
Test between "I" and "C" to test the injectors, should be less than 5.0 Ohms.
To check glow plugs Test between "G" and battery ground. Should be between 0.6 and 2.0 Ohms
