Basically remove the pipe completely and yes its a bear to take off the foil but result is more turbo noise and whistle. I noticed a lot more sound from my turbo after I did this, not annoying just sounds really nice.

i recomend taking the pipe off to remove the foil...it looks better and some say you can hear it whistle a little more when the turbo is spooling...idk if i hear it whistle more or i just think i do...i personally think it makes the engine look better instead of foiled pipes running in there.

u all beat me to the punch...haha

The pipe isn't that hard to take off. I did it on my last truck I really noticed a little bit louder tone to the whistle, but the big benefit is a cleaner looking engine bay.

Take it out to do it -- there's really no other way. It isn't hard to remove at all. First get a jug of Crown Sol-U-Strip from Lowes (HD doesn't carry it). Make sure you get the thick stuff -- it'll stick on the pipe like glue and work the old adhesive loose.

Then just peel the foil off being careful because that stuff is sharp!! Once you get it peeled, paint on the stripper and keep it wet for about 30-45 mins. Then go at it with shop towels. It should all come right off. You might need a wire brush for the stubborn parts, but it'll come nice & clean. Follow that with some SOS pads or steel wool and soap & water. It'll shine right up. Reinstall.

That's it!! Then it'll look like this:

Two clamp bolts, both accessible from the top. Actually four because you ought to remove the boots and clean them too.

There is a little known Gene posted objection to removing it due to heat soak from the manifold. It has merit and does not bear arguing. It is pretty much simple physics. The net effect is debatable.

Mine got louder. Now it is too loud with my new turbo, well for the wife anyway. I don't care myself. I am thinking of modding this mod further.

It was a pain to get all of the glue off, but it was totally worth it. It actually sounds like a turbo whistle when spooling

I noticed one in mine. Not sure where it came from. I have plenty of clearence around everything. After I peeled mine, at the time I thought it would be cool to paint it plum purple. Not I look at it, it really isn't so cool now. Waiting till it get warm to paint a different color.

There's one down by the PS pump -- it's put there on purpose.
