Engine stumbles under load.
I have been hauling about 10,000 Lbs behind my truck for the last week and have been having an issue. My truck is a '77 f-250, 400cid, 4 bbl carb, 5k miles on the engine, Auto trans. Going down the freeway, no problems. When I have to sit at a light for a couple of minutes I take off and the truck looses power and stumbles until I let off of the throttle then it cathes up and seems to be OK. To much fuel? not enough? If not towing a load all is fine.

Accelerator pump perhaps? Pull off the air cleaner with the truck off and look down the primaries, pull the throttle back and you should see two nice streams of gas shoot at the venturis. Sounds like you have a lean condition.
