<HR style="COLOR: #666666" SIZE=1><TABLE><TBODY><TR><TD vAlign=top width="100%">My 2000 F-450 is giving me serious problems this winter.
She cranks like a gem but starting only if and when she wants. I have replaced both batteries and cable connectons (needed to anyway), glow plugs, GPR, checked the heater (works fine) I plug it in every night, I was recently in upstate N.Y. had her gel up, Got bad/non winter blend fuel at some small station I ?, had to pay to take her in. While in shop warming up they replaced the fuel filter and put an additive in the tank. Now back in MN (so from N.Y. to MN I went thru plenty of gallons of different fuel to clean out any of those issues I think anyway) I have done all of these replacments and still the beasty (female dog) still doesn't want to start for (Dog Pooh) Any one have some other things I could check into??? Help the lost Please

You didn't say, so I will ask. Once the truck is started and warmed up to operating temperature, does it start easy after that? Here is a pciture of where the cps is located:

It may require some effort on your part to find out why ...could be many things ..your best bet would be to have it on a scanner at no start monitor ICP pressures & IPR DC% ,,,you may also need a lighter grade of oil ,or possibly an injector poppet issue
Thank you so much for the picture, I had no idea where the cps was by the way she starts just fine after being ran and up to running temp. It just seems to be a grumpy truck for the first start of the day when cold out.

could be oil draining back out of the HPOP..before you crank it up in the AM..pull the plug and see if you can touch the oil at the top of the HPOP with your finger..click on and look at pic for the oil check plug...

Well, it wouldn't hurt to change out the cps, but I doubt that is the problem (if you do change the cps, keep the old one in the truck as a spare with the socket needed to change it on the road). I'm with Ron on an oil related problem or a dead GPR. I see that you live in the southern Arctic ...Minnesota. What oil are you running in that truck, 15-40 dino oil? If so, I'd do what Ron has suggested about checking the HPOP oil level before trying to start the truck. In addition, I would change to 5-40 synthetic oil, at least for the winter months...if you are running 15-40 dino in the winter you will be absolutely amazed at how much easier your truck will start when it is cold on 5-40 syn. Also, take a multimeter and check that the GPR is actually working at cold startup. It wouldn't be the first time a relay was bad, new out of the box.
I second the oil thickness issue. When I ran 15w40 dyno oil my truck would not start with the remote starter and when I got in the truck, it would take some cranking to start if the temp was below 15 deg f. Since I changed to 5w40 synthetic, no problem with remote starting even down to -15.By the way truck is not plugged in so I try to keep it maintained so it will start.
Going to check oil level soon. Had to work today first. What is a good brand of 5w40 syn? I have always only used 15-40 rotella diesel. I will check back after I get out there and check if its at the top.
I checked it out and the oil is at the top. Then I gave it a try and she started like normal but it was plugged in all night and it's 28 deg. out side, so I will let her run for a while and see if she starts tomorrow. I also change the GPR again. So maybe mine was bad out the box.
I don't know have to wait to see how the a.m. start if any goes.
Have you had the CPS changed ever, Other's will chime in. Sound's like CPS.
Thank you for your help. After finding out what that is I learned that my CPS had just been replaced in Jan.08
aka CMP also. That is what I was told by ford anyway, again thank you

There are a myriad of good brands...probably easiest to get is 5-40 Rotella-T synthetic at WalMart. I read that the HPOP was checked and it was full, so we can eliminate that. I would have checked the GPR before I bought another, but let us know how it starts in the morning. I don't know how cold it will be in your neck-of-the-woods, but if it doesn't go below zero tonight, it should start fine without being plugged in. When you go to start it tomorrow morning, wait about 30 seconds or so after the WTS light goes out. Let the glowplugs do their thing for at least a minute or so.
I started using mobil 1 but the looked at the rotella t syn at walmart and found it was almost $10 cheaper per gallon for the same grade so I use it now,but still use the mobil 1 filter as it is a better filter than the motorcraft.
