My 03 excursion won't go into 4x4. Nothing happens when I rotate the switch to either hi or low. I get no lights on the dash and the trasfer case does not engage. I have checked all the fuses and they are good. It was working recently but I can't figure what wrong. Thanks
The little light in the dash, 4x4 and lo range, are both powered on when the motor engages. Unless that motor is working then the lights won't come on.
If the fuse under the dash and the fuse under the hood are good, then it might be a wiring issue. I had a ground hog chew through part of my harness and we did a lot of troubleshooting and parts replacement before we found it.
Oh, another thing. When I had mine changed they found the wiring harness that attaches to that little motor was corroded badly. It actually broke a couple weeks later when the 4x4 quit working again.
From time to time on the Excursion it won't engage right away and most times you have to turn the hubs by hand. This happens more commonly when not being in 4x4 for a long period of time.
A couple years ago a buddy of mine was showing me his Super Duty and when he put it in 4x4 on the dial it did nothing. After locking in the hubs the lights came on and it went into 4x4.
Both the SRW and DRW have aftermarket Warn hubs and with those you have to turn the hubs by hand to engage 4x4.
I had same problem last year. Turned out there was a plastic vacuum line that was broken. It runs by the passenger side battery tray. According to the dealer, I crushed when I changed the battery & it prevents motor from activating t-case. They charged me about $100 to patch the line.
