front end grinding noise????

so im leaving to go out of town for the weekend and my truck disagrees.i was driving about 45 mph when a loud constant grinding noise began from the front tire,so i pulled over and it stopped ,i jacked it up took tire off and could find nothing wrong. the front end was rebuilt 8 months ago-new upper, lower ball joints, new control arm, shocks, tie rod ends, brakes and rotors were done 3 months ago. right now im kinda at a loss ,thinking maybe cv axle, what else do i need to look at?

I had the same problem, only at lower speeds/RPMs. What I found out was that I had some nasty positive camber at low road speed that was causing my front skid plate to rattle against the frame and/or exhaust.

It sounded almost exactly like what you describe. After a full four-wheel alignment and shoring up of the skid plates, my '98 sounds almost as good as the day I bought it.

Sounds like you might've gotten a pebble jammed in your brakes. Disc brakes are both minimally protected from debris & mostly immune to debris. However, inevitably, just the right sized bit can get picked up off the road, thrown into just the right place & get jammed into the brakes-to produce the symptoms like you mention. Usually the "constant grinding noise" is short lived. Often such a noise, that starts spontaneously, will be changed with application of the brakes. Most of the time such debris rapidly abrades & gets spit out on its own, applying brakes tends to speed up the process. Stones generally make noise only a few seconds.

Once got what might've been a small rusted steel nut jammed between the caliper & rotor. The grinding persisted forcing me to pull the wheel. Couldn't pry the battered chunk of steel out. Put wheel on, backed up, hit brakes, debris popped out.

Grinding noise when turning

I had a grinding/howling noise on my 06 KR 4x4 only when turning left, even just changing lanes. It was most noticeable from about 20-50 mph but really was there at all speeds just got lower frequency when slow and drowned out by wind and road noise when fast. I jacked up the front end and didn't feel any play or drag when the wheels were spun. I took it to the dealer and it was the wheel bearing/hub assembly on the left front. I hope this helps.
