Hi,
I have a 97 Mountaineer, that we pulled the driveshaft out of and found the CV part of it was ruined. My local Ford dealer wants big dollars for the part and it just not in the budget at this time. My question: can I drive the SUV locally without the driveshaft for a while without causing more damage? Thank you, ray
You must use your parking brake. On the AWD the front axle is used for park. If you park on a hill your Explorer will be at the bottom of it.
Try NAPA for the drive shaft. It runs about $250 or look for a used one. You can also call a drive shaft shop and see how much they want to rebuild the one you have.
Not me. The parking brake on the Explorers is as worthless as nothing.
My parking brake pads were non-existant 4 years ago when I replaced my rear brakes. I had a couple of studs I had to replace and to get to them I had to remove the emergency brake pads I did not bother replacing them. Where I live they have safety inspections but the parking brake is not part of it.
