Anyone ever use a stainless band style clamp on a butt joint?Just wondering how well they seal.

I used a formed band clamp on a lap joint already. The clamp leaked a bit and I couldn't get it to seal right so I took it off and put on a good stainless u-bolt clamp.

I would weld a butt joint instead of clamping it.

I've used them on several applications,and they seal very well-as long as they're the butt-joint type. The lap style almost always leak due to the dissimilar sizes that you're attempting to mate. The whole key to getting them to seal well is a clean butt joint that's as square as possible.
