Just wandering if any one had any experience with their cams? Are they cheep chines cores or just generics from a major company? They have a cam that looks like what i want and since im close to the store ill just pick it up.
I'd call and ask 'em. They've always been pretty straight with any questions I could come up with. Make sure you check to see where the lifters come from, too. One of the engine builders in here, or maybe BITOG, has complained about junky Chi-Com lifters - I think he said he has to try 40 or 50 in order to get 16 decent ones.
I'm guessing there's some giant cam grinding company out there (hopefully, NOT Chi-Com based) that does these grinds, then packages them for different companies. For instance, that 204/214, .484/.510 351 C/M grind has been around since at least the '80's; I remember getting that particular grind from Crane (I think they originated it), PAW and Speed-O-Motive over the years, and a guy at work here got a copy of the Crane "Fireball" for his FE from PAW some time ago.
I can't say for sure, but most of Summits parts are quality name brand parts that Summit gets runs for to sell under their name. There's not a whole lot of cam grinders out there anyway, and I've read somewhere that several different companies get their cams from the same place. You didn't say which cam, but one of their's is pretty much identical to the Edelbrock Performer in specifications, and wouldn't surprise me if it came from the same grinder.
I ordered one for my 460 but I haven't run it yet. I still have to port/polish my heads first. I just wanted something a step above stock power levels, and since this will be my first cam swap, if I screw it up I'm only out $100.
supply and demand is an issue with those old school grinds, they are low performance and out of favor for todays more aggrevise grinds.
Summit is getting like walmart where they have sure volume.

I had a 3500 in my old 460 for over 120K w/ no problems, don't know about their lifters.
I've just dropped a 3501 in my new longblock w/ a True Roller set straight up and a Edelbrock Performer stock replacement manifold. I'll have to get some miles on it before I really push it.
These are RV cams, but that's what I do..haul stuff around.
I could light the tires up 2nd, 3rd and into 4th with the milder 3500 and almost 1/2 ton tool box in the back.

YMMV
I do believe the 3500 is the cam I ordered. I'm also doing the timing set and maybe an intake if I find one in time.
