SimpleTheft Deterrent

I just had my 08 SD broke into night before last. What they did and I'm guessing, is that they used a screw driver and jammed the drivers side lock cylinder to open the door.

The cylinder is now ruined and the door will not lock. So I went to a friends body shop and he ordered a drivers side rear door handle (p/n 7C3Z2626601) $68.73. This handle does not have the a hole or cylinder for a key, not to mention the rods if some uses a screw driver to pry up the handle from the bottom, which is another way to open the door. Additionally, all the rods are now zipped tied and are not used. This solves the problem for using a screw driver to break in, but now it creates a another problem.

If the battery should die, I have no way to get into the truck. I could get someone to slim jim the door open but thats costs more money. So the problem is how to get the hood to open and as you know the hood has a 2 latch system, one to pop the hood located inside on the kick panel and another located outside near the grill. So my solution is to disconnect the cable at the hood latch comming from the kick panel. Purchase another lever and cable exactly like the one used near the grill. It comes with the correct end and the factory lever.

Now, mount the handle some where convienent. Problem solved. I purchased the handle and cable (approx. $45) and when it comes in I will post the p/n and where a good place to mount it.

or you could mount a jumper cable connection in the grill or on the front bumper like wreckers have.

This is what you need!

Red Box.. Warn Booster Cable Kit.. Uses 0-Weld cable to the battery.. Includes 25 foot cable with opposite connection ot it and jumper clamps.. I've already used it and I will tell you.. IT RAWKS! I hate having to open my hood to jump start a car.. Now all I got to do is plug it in!

Paid $100 bucks for it on Amazon.. They retail for $200 on the kit.. Look around you might get lucky!

Infact I just found it

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00029XEFW?...0&linkCode=asn

There it is.. $109 bucks! Best damn money I ever spent!

Or you could just slide under the passenger side of the truck and hook up a jumper cable to the positive side of the starter and ground on the frame. It's easy and it's free! If your battery is so dead that the door locks will not opperate, you'll have a bigger problem anyway.

BTW, I did this mod on my truck as soon as I bought it. Instead of using zip ties on the unused lock rod, I removed it.

Another option...you could also install the keypad on the side of the door. I ended up with one and really like having it.

I used to think it was useless.

i built my own set up using 250 amp cable, connectors, and cable clamp ends for less than $50.

but that WAS over 20 years ago, and the connectors alone are over $60 now.
