Hey all,
After many years of owning 7.3 trucks, and against my better judgement, I recently bought an Excursion with a 6.0 liter. At first I was averaging aroud 16mpg or 600 miles to a tank. The past several fill ups I am only averaging around 14mpg and am down to about 500 miles to a tank. Any suggestions on where to start looking for this loss. I changed fuel filters about 10000 miles ago.
The 'auto' hubs can be problematic. If you engaged them recently and they LOCKED for 4 wheel...but did NOT unlock...you could have more drag on the system to drive that wheel...
Jack up the front of the Ex and see if the front wheels free wheel...if not...you have a stuck hub.
Or...has someone recently rotated the manual hub switch to LOCK on you?
Last would be tire pressure. As the temps drop...tire pressure naturally drops...so if you didn't add any air to your tires this winter...that could be a contributor do to lower tire pressures...
'04 6.0 Excursion. I've had the same numbers, 16 constant, now down to 14 constant, begining in December. I've just on this tank of fuel started using Schaefer Soy Shield All weather instead of Power Service, and it looks like I may actually be getting 1mpg better. I will keep track, and give an update when I know for sure.
