The Cow Palace

Don't know if any of you have heard, but there's a Senate Bill in the works to tear down the Cow Palace in Daly City. Here's a link to more info:

http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/articl...9LPS.DTL&tsp=1

And this link provides some more info, along with a page that tells us what we can do to help stop it from happening:

http://www.savethecowpalace.com/stop.html

I don't think the Bay Area can afford to lose the Cow Palace. There is no other venue in the area that is capable of hosting the events that are held there, and to turn it into a shopping center and condos would be a travesty.

What will the bureaucrats do next...tear down the Golden Gate Bridge and replace it with ferry boats?

Quite a piece of history to just destroy. Knowing nothing of the area it looks as though the community built around the Cow Palace is need of a cleaning up. We have a Sports Arena where the community has decayed as well as the Arena right along with it.

Hosting events such as Exotic Erotic is a sign of decay. Management of the Cow Palace should receive a swift bump on the head for bringing trash to the community.

I see both sides of the argument, but putting the old heifer out to pasture is wrong.

Thing with the CP is just like most "event" arenas and such, it's been so long since it was upgraded, it loses it's luster for out of town and new people to the area...it just doen't have that "sizzle" for them.

Just a sign of the times.

Brings me back to the good old days. My first concert was Metallica opening for Ozzy in '86 there. General admission. Religious fanatics telling us we're going to hell. Great show.

I use to go to a lot of venues at the Cow Palace, like the Sportsman's/camping shows, bird shows, hot rod shows, etc.

Now, a lot of those venues are not being booked there.

It would be nice if they could somehow incorporate a grocery store in there.

Progress? OOOKAAAAY!

I remember when they tore down Playland at the Beach, for progress,
I mean "to make way for redevelopment".

I hope they upgrade the Cow Palace, and keep it from the wrecking ball.

Unless some deep pocket contract steps in, I'm thinking (just from listening to thing on the radio) that it'll be leveled.

Plus side is...you might get your Grocery Store!

OKay, bad joke.

Personally I've never attended an event at any place just because "it's new, upgraded/etc"...

Heck, back when I lived in the Bay Area, I was a fixture at Candlestick to watch the Giants, I'd have watched them if they were playing on a dirt field with Coke Bottles used as bats.

To me it's about "whos" there..not "where" it's at.

But with the Moscone Center up and doing good, three ball parks in the Bay Area, improvemenst in Oaklands downtown area...the Cow Palace is falling by the wayside.

It really is too bad, I have fond memories as a youngster helping my Cousin out as he won Grand Champion in show for a few years showing Cattle...damn, been so long I don't recall if it was FFA, or Open division.

Thats kind of sad. Bill Graham used to promote some great shows there back in the 70's.

It probably will be leveled, in the name of progress, I mean "make way for redevelopment."

"IF" they keep it, it does need to be "seismically upgraded"; maybe a few coats
of paint, here and there, more restrooms, etc.

I remember the first year at the "Stick", watching the likes of Mays,
Marichal, McCovey, Cepeda, the Alou brothers, and so on.

As for "it's about "who's" there..not "where" it's at; like Monster Park (Candlestick Park) to AT&T Park (Pac Bell Park);
Downtown Oakland, from improvements, to businesses leaving, like DT Detroit.

Like I said, I'd like to see the Cow Palace stay right where it's at,
but most likely, it won't, and that's a shame; but I guess it's "progress";
I mean "redevelopment".

Now, I have to go grocery shopping.

Now you're bringing back some good memories of those free concerts in the park, for me from '68 to '72.

We just had a "40th Summer of Love concert, last year, at GGP.

http://www.2b1records.com/summeroflove40th/

I was there. I was told it was fun.

Actually, it was funny seeing 60+ year old wanna be hippies, with their kids.

Some of the musicians were in wheel chairs.

But it was all good, and so was the music.

That's funny, I used to live in Mt. View, off Shoreline and El Camino )Highschool Way), just down the road from Shoreline Amph Theater, where the Grateful Dead would come on a yearly basis...I lived right across from where the old Mt View HS used to be...they renamed the leveled land as "xxxx"-park, but it was a yearly funny for me to see these old geezers, long grey hair, tye-dyed Tshirts, etc, roll out of thier VW's busses in the morning to get thier way to the concert.

I have a feeling I saw S-Ben and his counterparts on one or more occaision

You may have.

I was the one with the long hair, and army jacket; which I do miss; the jacket, that is.

Of course, that was a..............................100 pounds ago.
