broken stud in head

I just picked up my new left side exh manifold. I am getting ready to pull off the old one. How is this method going to work for stud removal?

I am thinking of using a torch to burn off all the old rusted nuts. There isnt hardly and hex left on them at all. Then slid the manifold off the studs. I will use my stud extractor to see if there are any studs that want to come out easily. Then install a brazing tip and heat up the others and try to extract them. I have one stud that appears to be completely flush with the head right now. I am afraid that this is going to be a problem child. I will try to left hand drill it out. if that dont work then use an extractor.

2nd question, How hard on average are these studs to remove? Do they seem to have grown inside the aluminum head or have most of you guys not had too many problems removing them?

Thanks for the help

Actually the nuts look worse than what is underneath. I had 1 broken, causing an exhaust leak. I took off the plastic inner fender ( easy to do), and went in that way. The nuts just spun on the 12 mm socket, I have a set of nut-bolt-stud extractors, look like a socket, just pound them on nut, they grip like crazy, got all the nuts off. I used a lot of PB Blaster, all came apart. The one broken stud came out of the block with a little PB and a smaller bolt extractor. My plan was to replace all studs with stainless, but after chasing the threads on the old studs, they were fine. I replaced the one broken one with stainless, put all back together with a $6.00 gasket been fine for 51,000 miles. Actually they are not stuck in there as bad as you would think. They are not bottomed out in the hole, and not super tight to begin with. Let us know how you do.
