lower control arms

I am cleaining up my front end and I would like to get some new lower control arms for my truck so when I have everything else painted or powdercoated I can get those coated as well what are the odds of getting a bad set of lower control arms from these salvage yards like on EBAY and sorts like that.

Myfirstnewtruck,

Let me get this straight. Your goal is "cleaining up my front end" by painting suspension components, but you're willing to gamble w/critical structural parts by considering the "odds of getting a bad set of lower control arms from these salvage yards"?

Well thats why i was asking the question about the parts if you cant answer the question then take your smart *** remarks somewhere else. I am here to ask and see what people think. Isnt that the whole point of having a forum? I am also replacing all of the ball joints, tie rod ends, bushings and the idler arm and the pitman arm if that makes any difference.

You're very welcome. I'm so glad I didn't go "somewhere else" & volunteer what I "think" of getting "everything else painted or powdercoated". Good luck with the "odds". Makes no "difference" to me.

First off...enough!

Second...Why don't you just paint the arms that are already on the truck? You gotta take them off anyways to do the bushings.

Also...why paint something no one else is going to see?

I don't agree with buying salvage yard on line suspension parts. It's hard enough to find good used parts when you go in person, let alone buying on line and taking someones word. A lower control arm, even if tweeked just a small amout , will raise many concerns with alignment and tire wear. If you have to go used, at least try to find some locally you can look at first..... Good Luck..

Thank you that is the information that I wanted. The reason that I wanted to get everything possible coated is I am always on the beach in the sand and for you guys that live in the midwest know that the salt from the road and the air destroys everything some of our work trucks for out there have rusted through the shock mounts etc. I wanted to get another set of arms because I was going to have them powdercoated then put the new poly eurethane bushings in and new ball joints before I get it up on the lift to change everything out. I am close to 100k on my truck and before things go bad I wanted to change it all out before. Thanks again for the advice. And I will look into a local yard if I am going to do the other set of arms.

Are you looking to get used parts just to save a buck? Like others have said, I don't know if I would "trust" salvage yards. Maybe look into some OE at a discount. Hint, hint!!
