Ausie Clevos were all Black with silver tappet covers??????????? WHAT??? Are you sure, coz most of them are Blue!!!. I am not calling you a liar, but I have never seen a cleveland come from the factory with a silver (chrome) tappet cover, not even a GT or GTHO. That said I am prety sure the GTHO's had Blue engines, at least the one I saw did. I saw a Genuine GT with shiny finned silver tappet covers, and while I am not sure I suspect it may have been an after market valve cover. All V8 F100's I have seen have had blue motors, and a few have had orange tappet covers.

Hi 335clevo, do u live in Austalia at all? Every Cleveland put in a XD-XE Falcon has a Black block with Silver Rocker covers. The early Falcons had Blue Blocks and Blue (351) Orange (302) Rocker Covers, but they are USA motors that were imported here, we didnt get the tooling to make them here till the late 70,s. I hope that clears that up.

I concur, I had a 1982 FE LTD with a 351C and it was painted black with silver (not chrome) rocker covers.

Hi xyfalcon500, did u ever pull that motor down, im wondering if it had 4 bolt mains and the oil restrictor kit fitted to it? I know a few did from my own and from friends cars. Just not sure if all the aussie (Black) motors where like that?
Actually i need someone who still has a late model Facon here, ive brought a car (XE ESP)with a new motor, but need to find out where to vacuum lines connect to. Ive brought the factory manuals which show most of what i need to know, just not sure where to run a couple of them.

Thankyou for clearing that up.

Yes I do live in Australia although all the XD and XF Falcons I have seen under the bonnet of were only fitted with 250 six cylinders. Your information on early Clevelands sounds correct because the only Cleveland V8's I have had anything to do with or looked at in detail were built before 1976. They have been: 351/302 XY, 351 XYGT, 351 XYGTHO, 302 XA, 302 XB, 351 XBGT 302/351 XC, 302 F100 and 351 F250).

Thanks again,

the 302 in the XY was a windsor.

Oh, an no, I never pulled that motor down... pity really, at the time I didnt realise that the last few years of cleveland production were the best; I have always thought that all the ones built fter 71 or so were made here and had the extra thick casting etc... As a consequence I now have the older design 351C in my XY, but it's not such a big problem.

Another thing, didn't the 82 have an electronic ignition? It's just that mine still had an older points'type distributer... maybe it was changed along the way

Hello,

The 302 XY I was talking about was a mate's, and fitted to a four on the floor, although the original engine in that car was a 250 with a 3 on the tree. The XY 302 was a Winsor,(I didn't know) that's good to know, so I don't get ripped off buying 'an original engine', Thankyou!!! I'm taking it then that all the XY's then with original Clevos in them are 351s with 4V heads?

Thankyou,

Hi xyfalcon500, actually the XC V was the first with electronic ignition, but it had the module on the fire-wall, XD-E,s had it on the dizzy. Just one thing some ppl dont know is that the hole in the block where the bottom of the dizzy fits in is actually bigger on Electronic than Points type. U can fit an old points dizzy in a new aussie block, but the dizzy will chew the bushes out as too much play. They done this so ppl cant fit the Electronic dizzy into the old type blocks, y i dont know?

almost right 8). the XY came with one of three v8's or 2 6cl engines.
the 6's were 200 and 250ci. now, you could get them with either a 302W with 2bbl carb, or a 351C with 2v heads and 2bbl carb. these were your only two choices unless you got a GT, which came with a 351C 4V only. Ie, the only 4v clevos sold in australia were those fittted to GTs.

Also, rechecked my distributor, it is in fact an electronic distributor and it fitted the block perfectly. Does this mean I do infact hav an aussie made block? The sump was still on the motor when i dropped it off for a rebuild, so im not sure if it has 4 bolt mains or not

Hi xyfalcon500 , just check the back of the block on the fuel pump side, Aussie blocks dont have a hole drilled in the pad, US ones do. As far as dizzy, what brand is it? u can buy aftermarket that will fit the US blocks, or someone may have machined down the dizzy shaft itself, its only a few thou.

It's a stock Ford distributor off an 82 LTD 351.

I found the valve covers which were on the engine I have in my car from before it was rebuilt, and they look to be painted silver, and the paint is very old, so I suspect it is in fact an Aussie block.

Might do the check to suggested though anyhow to make sure.
