It's not on a daily or even weekly basis that I leave pavement, but I sure ain't afraid to. This little jaunt in the dirt wasn't planned, I was just out killing time. Saw a "road" up the side of this hill and decided to investigate. I didn't think to film it at first. I wish I would have because I made it over some pretty rough stuff. Here's a video of a few of my hill climbs and a run through the sand. (Mild language)
I will be installing a limited slip back there in the next few months. That will help it a lot. If I would have had a few hundred pounds in the back it would have done better too. But like i said I didn't plan this, and I was all alone without a spare tire so I was taking it easy.
Back in March, I went with my cousin and some friends out to a popular spot northeast of town. My truck was outperforming a wrangler in the sand washes. I actually had to pull it out once. I was amazed. Haha
I don't know what I'd do without 4x4 I like to adventure off on trails up dirt roads to. Your truck made it up the hill pretty good for the most part. I thought it was going to make it up the last hill oh well guess you will have to make a redemption video once you get the limited slip out back. Thanks for sharing always great to see these fords in action.
These days we all feel like we need a 4x4 but I always think back to before my time and this was the kind of thing you 2WD guys were doing on a daily basis. You don't actually need the 4x4. It's just an assistant.
On the F150s the vacuum actuators are known to go, likely due in part to a lack of usage because half the people who buy a 4x4 F150 don't actually need a 4x4 F150.
Our vacuum hubs are long gone. Gotta turn them manually. But even that way, the passenger hub doesn't always engage right away. I want to get rid of the vac hubs and put a set of stainless steel mile marker hubs on it.
Pshaw, that trail looks like Interstate Highway compared to some I've been on with my F100. Jus' Sayin'. It's fun rattlin' down old highways and trails. Cold beer and Marty Robbins on the radio, yer all set.
Yeah that trail really wasn't too bad, it was just rocky and I didn't want to tear up my tires. I could have dropped the hammer and made it but I probably would've cut a tire.

I still don't get why these days companies are using vacuum lines to operate the 4x4 one worn line could ruin your day. It's good you took it easy on the ole girl cut tires are never any fun plugs can't patch everything. Better then having to buy a tire.
4 wheel drive won't help with cut tires though.. Seems like maybe he needed some weight in the back is all, and i guess better tires? High clearance is the main thing.
