Today we broke out the Ol' 97 F-250 and my cousins 93 F-250 7.3 IDI to haul some cattle to the market due to the fact we are just running low on hayso we cut some of the herd.. We hauled off 7 calves and one cow, the cow weighed 1030 and the calves ranged from 175 to 780 average about 400. They brought decent considering everyone is selling out, they went for an average of 1.09 a pound. The 97 pulled a 16ft tag along two stall horse trailer, I forgot how nice it was to tow with a 5-speed felt like nothing was back there.
Just wondering how everyone else is faring with there cattle and hay situation.
I'm done with the steers for now, can't aford the grain. hay around here is bringing TOP $$$.. seen some OK grass rounds go for $45.. can't even find small squares anymore.. just wish I had some more to sell right now..
If you can find hay around here you can't afford it. Spring can come early this year. I wonder how much more hay ground is going to be corn this year? Even if we get a decent growing season I think the hay market nationwide is going to be short
Well your lucky to find it for 45. We found some from 2 seasons ago for 55 bucks a roll, it was that or pay 100 for a 1000lb square bale. As it stands right now fertilize is 550 a ton so that going to be great. What comes around goes around and I think these people gouging these hay prices will get nipped down the road.
Round here all the farms still got 1/2 to 3/4s stock left. But, were gettin an easy 3 cuts a year, seen a few get a 4th cut in, but it was some pretty bad stuff, but they feed it first and didnt bail tight so it wasnt too bad. Kind of curious how many cuts is everyone gettin? (just hay)
I get three a year off of my "baby" 8 acre patch.. get from 650-800 bales a cutting..
however the friggin' goats get a large chunk of that.. ;0(
worthless hay burnin things..
Yep that and horses (hope I dont affend people lol). Mostly dairy farms here, so no time to be messing with much else. A few people have horses, but mostly because there wives or daughters like them, and ride them...
bought 3 Semi loads so far at $60/roll for 4x5 net wrapped arkansas hay. not good hay either. sold over 30 some cows already. weaned all calves old enough or not. we are down to 50 cows, and will have to buy at least 1 more load of hay.
