I have a sloped driveway I was wondering somthing.I fueled my 88 f150 custm kingcab dual tanks but only the front tank right up.I drove no more than 20 km and added more fuel this time $23 $1.16 a liter.Seems like its drinking it .4.9 IM 44 SO NOT HEAVY ON THE FUEL THATS FOR SURE STOCK TIRES AUTO 3.55 2wd.Can the fuel leak back into the rear tank? or do I have some other problem
Yes, you can have fuel from one tank returned to the other tank. It's a very common problem. Search for "crossflow" in this forum, there's a ton of information about it.
im not a mathametision but 20kms is about 15 miles dont no how many liters in a gallon lets say 5 to use round number $23 $1.16 liter 18-20 liters = roughly 4-5 gallons no?The front tank is how many gallons?I jammed in the fuel and the needle was below 3/4s after 15 milesshould got a 351 lol
In all seriousness though.....you added 19.8 liters of fuel or 5.23 gallons, which lasted you 20 kms or 12 miles. Based on these numbers you're getting a wopping 2.29 mpg!! I'd definitely say you got a problem.
Im thinking the mysterious crossover.88 f150 2wd rear pump must be defective as bucks and stutters on rear.Running front only. Now is it because the rear pump is shot or is it the valve thingy behind the front wheel up on the frame. Thanks no mechanic but I can try Eespcially if its not the pump.Or is the rear tank easy to drop and change pump I can get pump for $165 canadien plus tax of course
If you want to figure out what mileage you're really getting, then you have to fill up both tanks, run them both down to near empty, and then fill them both up again. This will negate any crossover problem which is probably screwing up your mileage calculation.
lol I am not trying to figure out my fuel cosumption I can see its terrible.I was asking if the fuel could go to my rear tank in my driveway parked on a slope. And I was introduced to the crossover fuel syndrom. This could account for the hi fuel consumption. As I stated the rear fuel tank makes the truck stall so I imagen the fuel pump is shot.I will check the level tomorrow on the rear tank abd moniter it.What I was alao asking was if the rear pump is not working will this cause the problem. Please keep all refrences to 88 model or same fuel delivery. Please dont confuse me up with your 93-93-95 model years. Thanks
man still 2.3 miles per gallon sucks-are you sure no one is hitting your tank at night-like siphoning it out? I know the tanks will cross over when you loose a pump -but man thats a lot of gas-my 90 siphons to the front tank but my mileage is no where near that bad and mine is a 302
dude forget the milage if its going in the back tank it syphoned a quarter tank.No one comes around my house 130lbs newfoundlander lets me no real quick if any visitors lol
