Hey there. It looks like we're stepping into the V10 world now. Our family is pretty excited about a new vehicle. I'm excited about the towing capabilities for camping, etc.
We would like to do whatever we can to get the best bang for our fuel dollars. I'm not sure where to start - what's fact or fiction. What would you recommend based on your experience in order for us to get the best mpg possible? (We don't have lots of money... it went toward purchasing the van)
Keep it tuned and keep just a tad bit more air in the tires than what is listed on the door jamb. I usually run about 8-10 more. Does it help? Dunno... makes me feel better though.
Welcome to the world of V10's! We're not heavy duty anymore....just modular...like office furniture, I guess.
Since I will be doing this when the weather warms I can't say for sure if it will help or not with the mpgs...
The MAF sensor CAN be cleaned with MAF sensor cleaner (CRC makes one cleaner)...but I'll be pulling the sensor, cleaning it and installing a drop in K&N filter into the OEM snorkel...
Oh yeah...after cleaning the MAF sensor...you need to disconnect the battery and then reconnect so the computer recognizes the 'new' MAF levels...
Will it help?...dunno...but I needed a new air filter and got the K&N for $42 vs a paper for $18 and the CRC cleaner for $6...I'll let you know how it works out...but maintenance items should be your first looksee...
I'm also changing the fuel filter while I'm at it...
Best thing you can do is make sure the basic maintance is taken care of. Then go lite on the gas pedal. Due to the design of the E-Series and the limited air flow to the motor and it's ability to cool the motor under the dog house you are somewhat limited to many power enhancements. Then add the E-Series shape of a large cinder block, it doesn't exactly glide throught the air. Though I am sure it glides through the air easier than our 31 foot Class C Jayco.
Enjoy the new family crusier, you will love the V-10.
