does anyone have a part number for a new shifter assembly for a 2000 6spd f250?
i have read where putting in a new assembly can clean up some of the slop in the shifter. just a thought, maybe if its not to much...it couldnt hurt. if i get the part number i can order it along with the f350 blocks at the same time.
Im not sure of the part number but I did have that replaced on my truck once. I took my truck into the tranny shop on Tuesday and they had it done on Thursday....Thursday is also payday..... My paycheck was $962 and the bill at the tranny shop was $936. That was a sad day......

Are you in the Seattle area? I would be glad to look at your truck and tell you what I think.
Reason I am saying this is I am having a hard time believing that the shifter stub is worn out. If I could drive the truck around the block with you, I could tell you what is up.
I fix cars for a living but not Fords, but I would be able to tell what is wrong.
Shop is too small to accept a Superduty for repair.
no i live in so cal....the truck shifts fine, especially with the new southbend clutch in it. but it just seems like the shifter wobbles around a lot. it doesnt hurt anything, but just seams a little more loose than some other cars i have driven.
My book calls it a 7210 and a 7C371 but I'm guessing that isn't the full number.
I'm afraid the shifting mechanism is in the "tunnel" at the top of the tranny .
Unless the shifter ball is really worn, or someone has slam shifted too hard and often, getting a new "shifter " assy isn't going to clean up much. a new ball will stop any leaks, however. you might need a main shift rail driver, or newdetent springs, but these require a disassembly to repair or replace
ok i was just curious. i just had the clutch replaced at 120k on the truck. so i figure when the clutch wears out again, i might just do a little more replacing than just the clutch. but hopefully that is a long long time from now. with the amount i drive though, at about 30k a year, that may only be a few years away at best.

Well, it it works, don't fix it.
The actual shift handle itself is a two piece laminated. The lamination may be failing.
Does it feel like it's moving and hitting something metal like a shift gate or more like a spongy sensation where the whole thing feels like loose bolts?
ill probably just leave well enough alone. but here is another question for you guys with southbend clutches....do you get a noticeable chatter when the truck is in nuetral, and the clutch is engaged? the mechanic said it is normal for performance clutches to chatter, but i went with the con-o clutch which is rated for 350hp and is just one step above stock...
thanks for all your help. i dont know how much i truck this mechanic.
Maybe they didn't get the bolts tight on the shifter when they did the clutch.
Good thought.
Lift up the boot from the floor and there will be two bolts holding the main shifter handle to the stubby one that is part of the transmission. They need to be tight.
.
Dont' worry about a chattering noise in neutral, it's ok.
seems looking at the ford manual the shifter has a cardan joint that could have some wear
I don't know if it's servicable but the post above for $962 seems like a bunch

They replaced the whole shifting assembly. New shifter arm and everything. Some sorta pin broke in the assembly.
