Hey I was wondering what kind of compression Ratio you would get with Aussie heads and stock (8.0:1) pistons in a 78 400? Also with "High-compression" (8.4:1) pistons made by Badger? This is assuming with NO MACHINING WHATSOEVER. I am looking for about 9.5:1. Also, are they worth the 300-400 you pay for them? Do any mods need to be made in order to fit them? Thanx for the help.
I'm thinking with aussie heads you gain 1.5 points of comp. Not positive for sure though. Are they worth the money. ..YES.. every penny you spend on them .. Bigger valves, unsheroding the valves, gasket match porting, and a little bowl work... and you get more then your money's worth's in a set of heads for street use and mild strip use.
11:1?!?!?!? That seems awfully high to be running on pump gas. Are you sure about that? You mean Premium don't you? I CAN'T live with having to add octane boost every time I fill up so this is an important aspect for me. 11:1? So with that kind of comp do you think you could pull 500 ponies out of a 400? Thanx
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 15-Jun-02 AT 05:43 AM (EST)]pump gas octane needs will vary with cam duration and timing. most often running that high of a cr will need the more expensive fuels. you should be fine with 92-94 octane and no additives. for me, i want 11.7:1, gas is not a concern.
dynagear and ohio pistons make flat top 400 pistons. dynagear has a website and a phone number on that site.
