i just got my truck on the road yesterday and i have found out that i can only get up to 80km @ 2000 rpm. the truck is a 1968 F-250 4x4, 360, np435, dana 24, dana 44 front and a dana 60 rear with 4.10 gears. i dont want to regear the diffs, but does someone have a kit than gears the transmisson? i have seen overdrive units but i dont like the price of them (just spend $2600 rebuilding the motor). if there is no kit to regear the transmission, what other transmission will fit in than has an overdrive gear in it?
Or a 5 speed. It wouldn't make sense to try to fit a ZF from a late model Ford into your truck. The integral bell would require an adaptor, them ain't cheap. Enter the NV4500. Scroll down here:
Put some big tires on it! Larger diameter is cost effective way to speed up the gear ratio, especially if you like them anyway. My 68 with 4.10/11 gears runs down the highway real well.
It appears he already has 34 inch tires. After about 30-32 inches, I think the bigger tires start costing you mpg even if they do slow the engine down.
