Im going to need new tires soon. I was Looking at the Goodyear Duratracs in 325/65/18. Right now I have 4:10 gears in my truck and wanted to know if I would have to regear? I know that the milage will suffer but im worried about burning up the tranny if I dont have the right gearing.
My Specs:
2005 F250 4x4 lifted 4"
V10 Engine
Torqshift Tranny
4:10 gears
Thanks for your help.
325/65/18s are going to be between 34" and 35", they're not exactly "large" tires by any stretch. A lot of trucks come from the factory with 275/65/20s, which are only about a half inch smaller than what you're looking at, and some came with 3.73s behind the gassers, so my recommendation would be to put them on first and worry about gearing later, once you decide if you like how the truck still pulls. If you don't have one, get a trans temp gauge or a Scangauge to replace the dash board idiot stick, and you'll be G2G.
35s, 4,10s and a V10 won't burn up the tranny, unless you really leave common sense behind in the driveway in the morning

Thanks for the reply...Ya about the gauges I have 7 Auto Meter gauges and also the Scangauge in my truck. It might be an overkill but I like it.
Thanks again TexasTech
I agree the V10 and 4:10 should be fine. If you were pulling a heavy trailer most of the time I would consider regearing to 4:56 but get the tires first and see how she does..
I have a 2000 F350 7.3 that came with 3.73 gears. I added tire size to 37X12.5 17 and it was sluggish.. I opted for the ear change and added Yukon 4.10 and wow what a difference.. And towing the 20' enclosed is way better know.. So those gears should be fine..
I agree with the rest... I ordered my 02 Excursion 7.3 with 3.73LS and ended up putting 35's on it, towed just fine. Get'em, drive and see, but I think you'll be fine.
Thanks for all the replys....What I would like to do someday is to install some kind of locker in the rear diff....I have the limited slip and only one tires spins when im in the snow or wet grass...Now I hear that I should of applied the brakes a bit and then they both will spin? resulting in me getting traction. Also I am using Royal Purple gear oil in my both of my diffs...It has the limited slip additive in it...I wounder if theres to much additive in the oil??
....Gage
