Thanks for the write-up...based on what u say I think I can do it w/out totally screwing anything up. I just need to get me some gear lube than tear into it sometime this week.
I just dumped a bit of ATF in there.
WD-40 is alright as well. Seems to work good.
Just make sure the inside of the hub is pretty clean.
Then i put a bit of grease on the outside of the lockout assembly though, because its moving there a lot and I don't want it to get loose. I just take it easy on that part, because the grease will come out, so I brush it on with one of my parts brushes. That works out alright.
so this may seem like a stupid question but I gotta ask before I tear into my hubs....do I need to take all the pieces out and coat each piece with gear lube or just squirt some around inside my hub and leave them all connected? I think I may jsut tear them apart anyway so I can see the inner-workings
Better off not to tear them apart, just inspect them for slop.
I always clean mine out with gas though. I don't nessarly suggest this. But i do it to get the old grease/oil/dirt out, and then i dump oil right into it. flip it over and let it drain out.
The spirolocks are a bitch if you dont know how to work them. There is that big spring in there which is a big beotch as well.
Once you take it appart, there are not many pieces, but you can inspect the brass/bronze bushing.
You can just stick your finger in the hub assembly while its out though and see how much play is in that bushing anyways.
I suggest finding a junk one to tear appart to find out how they work.
All in all, if you want to clean them. Pour in some gear lube and then flip it over on some cardboard and let it drain out. Otherwise, it will come out going down the road all over your rims and your truck.
