so last weekend I towed a car about 300 miles but right off the bat my truck came off the highway the trailer was back heavy and I was going down hill and the trailer jack knifed and slid me off the road and down a hill.. after cleaning the poo out of my pants i checked the truck out and it looked ok (2000 f-150 xlt 4.6 auto) it looked ok but the overdrive light was flashing (i didnt have overdrive on) I didnt know what it was and I drove home it was late and the check engine light wasnt on so i thought it was some sensor going off. I called my inshurance because when I took the trailer off my truck was leaning to the left about 1 1/2 inches to the left ( tire pressure was correct) and the tranny was shifting hard. When I took the truck to the local ford dealership they said it had a 3/4 shift error code. when they checked it out there was there was alot of clutch material in the pan. The agent is trying to get out of paying for the rebuild because they say it was normal wear and it just wore out.... I know that this trany ran well shifted smooth and this is the ONLY tow I have ever done with this truck. I didnt claim the trailer damage or the damage on the car I was towing but if they agent messes me around I am going to claim them too.. if that is the case do I have to fix those things with the money from the inshurance or can I use it on the rest of the truck. (not the best questions for this forum but someone might be able to help me)
Well, I din't think that you're gonna have much luck with claiming the tranny. It really depends on the actual code given and if the dealer can prove it was caused by the accident.
I would clear the code and see if it returns. My ABS light came on when yanking a dead van in the snow awhile back, but it never came back since.
I would claim all of the damage, since you are opening a claim. They will usually cut you a check and you can do what you want with it.

It depends who you go through, alot of insurance companies now a days have gone to a system where you get a quote from a certain place, and they send a check that can only be cashed by that shop.
Never heard of it before until my mother cracked the bumper and bent the radiator support on her 04 mustang..... the stealership was charging $1400 to fix it, I thought I was going to fix it for a couple hundred and she'd come out with a stack of cash in her pocket..... But they wouldn't give her the money, they wrote a check to the stealership.
What happened to the good ol days.... when, If you could fix it yourself, you could come out ahead after an accident.
That stinks. But would he be getting all three fixed at the same place? Might get lucky that way and get a check sent to him instead of 3 different shops.
If it were my truck, I would service the tranny and verter. Add 2 quarts of Lucas oil Stop slip, and see how it does. That is if the trans was regularily serviced in the past. I would drink the stuff if it came out of the bottle faster. try heating it up in the microwave for a short while before you add it to the trans. Anymore i just dump the Lucas oil into the pan when i am ready to bolt the pan back up.
Dont heat the fluid up in front of a salamander. I set mine about 10 feet away, ok maybe 5, and the bottle started changing shape. Sure did come out easy though.
