I think my steering column might be bent but I'm not sure. It sits with a slight angle to the drivers door. I tried adjusting it in the under dash mount but when i tighten the bolts it goes back to the sligh angle. I'm not sure if this matters but the plate that the shaft goes through on the engine side of the firewall is missing. Any info would be great.

also if there is a name for the plate the column goes through could someone let me know so I can get one?
LMC calls it "Seal-Column/Floor", but they only list one for 2WD w/o PS or4WD and manual transmission. The one I have on my 77 F150 w/ PS and automatic transmission looks very different from the one in there illustration. The one on my truck is original and is very stought looking piece, so you may have luck getting one from a salvage yard or try Mikes Trucks parts which is one of the sponsors of this site. I am tending to believe someone may have swapped a steering column in your truck if the floor seal is missing. You may be able to stop the column from cocking by putting flat washers under your bolts that secure your column under the dash if they are not there already. The tightening of a bolt on piece with an adjustment slot will tend to "walk" the movable portion (the column in this example) as the bolt tightens.
